Questions & Answers

Q: How do I get in touch with you?
A: Send an email to thomas at richmondkihon dot com.

Q: What is a shibu?
A: A shibu is an extension or satellite group of another dojo. Ours is an extension of the Tidewater Bujinkan Dojo.

Q: How much does it cost to train?
A: Nothing but your time and attention.

Q: Where does the training take place?
A: The training usually occurs outdoors at a local park. This fall and winter it will take place at the Bujinkan Shima Dojo. Please contact me via email if you’re interested or see me at the Tidewater Bujinkan Dojo, Bujinkan Shima Dojo or a local seminar.

Q: Why should I train with you instead of someone else?
A: You should train with whomever you feel most comfortable with and whomever you feel is the best teacher for you. That person may or may not be me.

Q: Can I train with you and another dojo or group?
A: Sure, I do. I visit the Tidewater Bujinkan Dojo and Bujinkan Shima Dojo whenever I can and try to make all the local seminars. I encourage those training with me to do the same. Although, you should pick a single teacher whose teachings you would adhere to.

Q: What is the training schedule?
A: Please see the calendar.

Q: Will we do everything on the materials covered page?
A: Yes, eventually.

Q: How would you describe the training?
A: Since the focus is on basic skills the training is fairly structured. You must be able to crawl before you can walk. Therefore we practice the techniques that make up the building blocks of the Bujinkan, or more specifically, taijutsu (i.e. body techniques, unarmed combat). The materials covered page lists the items covered and loosely lists the sequence in which the material is presented (e.g. ukemi, kamae, taisabaki, atemi). Those items are introduced gradually with a lot of time spent practicing and revisiting previous material. As more material is introduced the more varied the exercises and drills become.

Q: I have more questions, where should I go?
